Athletics Canada announces 2011 award winners
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today its 2011 annual award winners with Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., getting the nod in three categories. Armstrong was chosen as overall athlete of the year, as most outstanding athlete in field events, and, as winner of the outstanding performance of the year. The winners are chosen by Athletics Canada’s Awards Committee from the nominee pool put forward by the athletics community. The award recipients will be honoured at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Calgary, Alta., which take place June 27-30. [Read more…]
Armstrong wins gold
GUADALAJARA – Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., capped off a season for the ages with Canada’s first athletics (track and field) gold medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Dylan’s fifth throw in the men’s shot put of 21.30 metres established a new Pan American Games record and secured gold. “Definitely a good feeling and a great way to cap off the season” said a thrilled Armstrong. “It has been a long season; my first competition was April 15th.” [Read more…]

Athletics Canada names team for World Championships in Korea
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada named today a contingent of 32 athletes who will travel to Daegu, South Korea for the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. The biggest sporting event of 2011 will feature athletes from over 200 countries converging for nine days of competition on a state of the art Mondo SportFlex Super X track. The World Championships run August 27 through September 4 with the Canadian team beginning departures on August 14 for a final preparation camp in Changwon City, South Korea. [Read more…]

OTTAWA – The first edition of the National Track League (NTL) wrapped up in Toronto on Wednesday with the crowing of the first ever NTL champions at the Toronto International Track + Field Games. Each NTL winner took home a beautiful glass trophy and a cash prize of $4,000.
