Drouin and Hughes set records
Moscow – What an amazing day for Team Canada at the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship in Moscow, Russia. Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., won bronze in the men’s high jump and set a Canadian Record of 2.38-metres while Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., placed sixth in the 3000-metres steeplechase final in a Canadian Record time of 8:11.64. Drouin sets new Canada record
Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., established a new Canadian record of 2.36-metres in the men’s high jump today at the IAAF’s Diamond League competition in Eugene, Oregon. Drouin finished third behind American Erik Kynard (2.36m) and Essa Barshim of Qatar who set a world leading mark of 2.40-metres. The previous Canadian record was 2.35-metres held by Mark Boswell. Derek will compete next weekend at the NCAA Division 1 Championship. [Read more…]
Drouin wins high jump bronze
LONDON, UK – Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., has won Canada’s first track and field and Canada’s 11th medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. Day five at Olympic Stadium also brought three top eight performances and a personal best. Drouin’s medal is the fist in the high jump since Greg Joy did in at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Que. [Read more…]
