GUADALAJARA – Canadian track and field wrapped up competition today at Telmex Athletics Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico with a pair of fifth place finishes in the relays. Canadian track and field currently sits in 9th place with four medals (gold, two silver and a bronze) with two road races remaining (no Canadian representation).
The women’s 4×100-metres relay team consisting of Kerri-Ann Mitchell of Pickering, Ont., Krysha Bayley of Edmonton, Alta., Christian Brennan of Waterdown, Ont., and Angela Whyte of Edmonton, Alta., finished fifth overall in a time of 44.33 seconds.
In the men’s 4×400-metres relay, Philip Osei of Toronto, Ont., Dontae Richards-Kwok of Mississauga, Ont., Tremaine Harris of Markham, Ont., and Michael Robertson of Ottawa, Ont., stopped the clock at 3:07.12 to place fifth overall. Team anchor Michael Robertson is happy with their showing at the Games; “We bettered our time by over a second from yesterday (3:08.51). Considering we came in with very little training as a team, it’s a good indication of things to come for next summer.”
Jason Wurster of Stevensville, Ont., finished seventh in the men’s pole vault final with a mark of 5.20 metres. Cuba’s Lazaro Borges took gold in a new Pan American Games record of 5.76 metres.
