CHARLOTTETOWN – Canada’s best youth aged athletes will take to the track and to the field at the University of PEI Canada Games Stadium beginning on Friday for the 2012 Legion Canadian Youth Athletics Championships in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The event is organized and hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion PEI Command and will feature Canadian youth athletes who competed earlier in July at the World Junior Championships in Spain.
World Junior Championship standouts in Charlottetown this weekend
Semi finalists Nicole Setterington of London, Ont., and Deshaunda Morrison of Calgary, Alta., will go head to head for the championship title in the girl’s 100-metre hurdles.
Teammates Mobolade Ajornale of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Clémence Paiement of Laval, Que., will be looking for nothing less than gold in the boy and girls 100-metres.
Georgia Ellenwood of Langley, B.C., will compete in the girl’s heptathlon; she finished 18th overall with a new personal best of 5262 points.
The first event on the field tomorrow is the girl’s javelin final and it goes at 9:30am local time. Things get underway on the track at 10:00am local time with the boy’s under 18 octathlon 100-metres.
