Michelle Stilwell takes Gold
London, UK – Michelle Stilwell of Nanoose Bay, B.C., today won Canada’s second track and field and Canada’s eight medal overall at the 2012 Paralympic Games. Stilwell won gold in the women’s T52 classification 200-metres in a new Paralympic Games record time of 33.80 seconds. “From the beginning the crowd had a roar and the roar kept going, I’m so happy right now, I’ve put everything into this for the last four years. Wykes finishes 20th in marathon
Marathoners have strong showing in difficult conditions
For the first time since the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games Canada fielded a full men’s marathon entry at the Olympic Games. The trio of Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton, Ont., Eric Gillis of Antigonish, N.S., and Dylan Wykes of Kingston, Ont., did not disappoint in very tough conditions. Warner places 5th in decathlon

Drouin wins high jump bronze
LONDON, UK – Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., has won Canada’s first track and field and Canada’s 11th medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. Day five at Olympic Stadium also brought three top eight performances and a personal best. Drouin and Mason advance
LONDON, UK – Three Canadian athletes made their mark in London on day three of the 2012 Olympic Games by qualifying into later rounds.
In the men’s high jump both Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., and Michael Mason of Nanoose Bay, B.C., advanced to final taking place Tuesday August 7. Drouin finished second in group A qualifying with a mark of 2.29-metres. “It was stressful. I’m not one to have a lot of misses like that. I usually like to clear on my first try; I’m not sure what was going on. I’m relieved to get through and excited for the final.” [Read more…]
