Team Canada recorded their best ever finish today at the International Chiba Ekiden in Japan. The mixed gender relay team placed seventh overall and recorded the fastest time in Canadian history covering the 42.195 km course in 2:09:28. The overall competition was won by Japan in 2:05:53. OTTAWA – Athletics Canada named eight athletes today who will travel to Chiba City in Japan for the 2014 Chiba Ekiden Road Race on November 24. The event is a mixed gender relay where men and women alternate legs to cover the marathon distance of 42.195-kilometres. Simon Bairu retires
Simon Bairu of Regina, Sask., has officially announced his retirement. Bairu, a cross country standout with the Wisconsin Badgers of the NCAA, and later with Canada’s national team program, won seven national cross country titles and two national titles on the track (5000m in 2009, 10000m in 2010). Ottawa Race Weekend economic impact
The 2014 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend supported $32.3 million in economic activity for the Province of Ontario, of which $21.8 was in Ottawa, according to a newly released economic impact assessment produced by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance.
