Athletics Canada announces 2011 award winners
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today its 2011 annual award winners with Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., getting the nod in three categories. Armstrong was chosen as overall athlete of the year, as most outstanding athlete in field events, and, as winner of the outstanding performance of the year. The winners are chosen by Athletics Canada’s Awards Committee from the nominee pool put forward by the athletics community. VANCOUVER – The weather didn’t cooperate but that didn’t stop great racing today at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver, B.C., site of the 2011 Canadian Cross Country Championships. Cameron Levins of Black Creek, B.C., successfully defended his title in the men’s senior age category. Kendra Schaaf of Craven, Sask., took the Canadian title in the women’s senior race in a time of 25:00 minutes. Ryan Cassidy of Grande-Digue, N.B., and Ellen Pennock of Calgary, Alta., took the men’s and women’s junior titles respectively. [Read more…]

Isaiah Christophe of Brampton, Ont., Jackie Marciano of Halifax, N.S., Kevin Strybosch of London, Ont., and Kyle Whitehouse of Ste-Catherines, Ont., all won medals while Braedon Dolfo of Langley, B.C., and Alister McQueen of Calgary, Alta., raced to new Canadian records.
