OTTAWA – The 2012 Canadian 10km Championship and Timex National Road Race Series finale is coming to Toronto this Saturday September 22 in conjunction with Canada Running Series’ Oasis Zoo Run. This will mark the fourth year in which the Zoo Run serves as the national championship and it will be the strongest and deepest battle to date with an impressive lineup of runners.
“We’re excited about both the men’s and women’s races on Saturday and pleased to see such a great group of Canadian distance athletes from coast to coast on the start line for the Oasis ZooRun.,” said Canada Running Series Director Alan Brookes. Brookes adds, “The quality, depth and buzz for the Canadian 10km Championship gets better every year. The 10-kilometre distance is such a great meeting ground, bringing together marathoners with their endurance and trackies with their speed – always an absorbing contest.”
The men’s field includes defending champion and 2012 Olympian Reid Coolsaet, 2008 Olympian Taylor Milne, Réjean Chiassion who was fifth at the 2012 Canadian Half Marathon Championship and Rob Watson who was fifth at this event last year.
The women’s field is highlighted by the current top two marathoners in Krista DuChene and Lanni Marchant, Megan Brown, winner of the 2011 Canadian Half Marathon Championship and runner up at the 2011 10km championship and Tarah McKay-Korir who won the Toronto Yonge Street 10K earlier this year in a time of 32:07.
