BARCELONA-Canada’s best finish on day five at the World Junior Athletics Championships came in the girl’s 400-metre hurdles from Taylor Farquhar of Belmont, Ont., who placed seventh in a time of 58.77 seconds.
In the boy’s 800-metres Brandon McBride of Windsor, Ont., qualified for tomorrow’s final in a time of 1:47.69 placing third in the third and fastest of the semi finals. Tyler Smith of Westaskiwin, Alta., finished in eighth place in semi final heat #1 in 1:54.95, he did not qualify for the final.
Also advancing to a final was the girl’s 4×400-metres relay team. The team of Alexandra Courtnall of Victoria, B.C., Devan Wiebe of Vancouver, B.C., Julia Zrinyi of Winnipeg, Man., and Sage Watson of Medicine Hat, Alta., clocked in at 3:35.56 to place second in their heat behind Jamaica who took first in 3:34.96. The boy’s medley relay team (Azonwanna, Best, Restall and McBride) finished fifth in their heat in 3:13.68, they did will not advance to the final.
In the boy’s 5000-metres final Aaron Hendrikx of Parkhill, Ont., finished in 16th place in a time of 14:29.97.
In the girl’s 100-metre hurdles semi final Deshaunda Morrison of Calgary, Alta., placed fifth in semi final #3 in 14.03 seconds while Nicole Setterington of London, Ont., finished sixth in 13.99 seconds in the second semi final heat. Neither advanced to the final.
