OTTAWA – Reid Coolsaet of Hamilton, Ont., and Megan Brown of Guelph, Ont., won national titles at the 2012 Canadian 10km Championships on Saturday in Toronto, Ont. The event was held in conjunction with Canada Running Series’ Oasis Zoo Run and the Timex National Road Race Series Finale.
Fresh off his Olympic debut in the marathon Coolsaet defended his title winning in 30:24.70 ahead of Rob Watson of Vancouver, B.C., (30:35.40) and Matt Brunsting of Guelph, Ont., who took bronze in 30:36.70.
The women’s race crowned a new Canadian champion as Megan Brown won the title in 33:33.60. Lanni Marchant of London, Ont., and Natasha Fraser of Port Moody, B.C., took silver and bronze respectively in 34:08.30 and 34:29.80.
Brown also won the women’s individual 10-kilometre Timex National Road Race title with Sam Pawluk of Richmond, B.C., taking the men’s title in 31:07.90.
British Columbia won the overall Timex National Road Race series provincial title as well as the men’s team championship with the women’s provincial title going to Ontario.
