OTTAWA– The fourth stop on the 2012 Diamond League circuit goes tonight and tomorrow at the Prefontaine Classic at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Four Canadian Olympic hopefuls in action tonight

Sultana Frizell of Perth, Ont., will throw in the women’s hammer at 9:00pm Eastern Time. Lining up in the 800-metres at 10:30pm ET are Melissa Bishop of Eganville, Ont., and Jessica Smith of North Vancouver, B.C. In the past few weeks Bishop has twice ran under the Olympic B standard and will be looking to get under the A of 1:59.90. At 10:46 ET Sheila Reid of Newmarket, Ont., gets underway in the 1500-metres.

Armstrong’s Diamond League title defence continues tomorrow

Training partners and Kamloops, B.C., residents Dylan Armstrong and Justin Rodhe will take to the field in the men’s shot put at 3:29pm ET tomorrow. Armstrong, the 2011 Diamond League shot put champion, is fresh off a series of meets striking gold on three occasions in a span of five days. He’s also coming off a seasonal best performance of 21.44-metres. Rodhe will continue his mentorship under Armstrong as he looks to improve in every outing on the road to the Canadian Trials.
