Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., registered a World leading performance in the men’s 3000-metres steeplechase this past weekend at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Standford, California. At the same meet Alex Genest of Lac-aux-Sables, Que., registered a World Championship A standard and is ranked third in the World. Chris Winter of Vancouver, B.C., is in 6th.
Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., and Mike Mason of Nanoose Bay, B.C., are leading the men’s high jump with second and third world rankings respectively; both World Championship A standards. Derek registered his 2.33 metres performance this past weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Mike registered 2.31 metres April 20 in Walnut, California.
Justin Rodhe of Kamloops, B.C., is in third in the World with a personal best throw of 21.29 metres in the men’s shot put. This World Championship A standard was registered over the weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Brockville, Ont.’s Tim Nedow is in seventh with 20.35 metres from April 20.
Still a junior, Shawnacy Barber of Kingwood, TX., bettered the Canadian senior outdoor record earlier this season registering 5.71 metres in the pole vault; also a World Championship A standard. He sits on the World top lists senior ranking in third.
Surrey, B.C.’s Christabel Nettey sits in fifth place after registering a long jump of 6.75 metres and World Championship A standard earlier this month.
