Ottawa – The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has ruled Justin Rodhe of Kamloops, B.C., ineligible for the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.  Rodhe, who has been living and training in Canada for close to four years and is married to Canadian hammer thrower Megan Rodhe, acquired his Canadian Citizenship on November 1, 2011.  According to IAAF rule 5.2, Rodhe would be eligible to represent Canada in international competition as of October 31, 2013. Athletics Canada announced today the athletes that will travel to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad for the 2012 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships to be held Saturday March 17. Port-of-Spain was good to the squad which competed at last year’s edition with the junior men and women taking gold and the senior men and women winning silver. 2012 returnees Cameron Levins (senior men) and Maria Bernard (junior women) won silver and bronze respectively. Three World Records over a few days has earned T52 classification wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell of Nanoose Bay, B.C., the title of BioSteel Top Performer of the Month for January 2012. While competing in the Summer Down Under series in Australia, Stilwell set new World Records in the 100, 200 and 400-metres.

Twelve 2012 National Track League series events confirmed

OTTAWA- The National Track League (NTL) announced today that 12 events will score across the series in this summer’s edition of the international track and field grand prix series taking place in six Canadian cities.  Last season ten events were recognized series wide with NTL champions crowned in each.  NTL scoring events are offered on a minimum of three occasions in the series providing athletes with opportunities to earn points in the hopes of securing NTL championship trophies and cash prizes.  Events not recognized with NTL status may still be offered on a meet by meet basis at the discretion of each competitions’ organizing committee. OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today its 2011 annual award winners with Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., getting the nod in three categories. Armstrong was chosen as overall athlete of the year, as most outstanding athlete in field events, and, as winner of the outstanding performance of the year.  The winners are chosen by Athletics Canada’s Awards Committee from the nominee pool put forward by the athletics community.  The award recipients will be honoured at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Calgary, Alta., which take place June 27-30. The winners will be unveiled next Wednesday December 21, and will be honoured at a banquet following the 2012 Canadian Championships in Calgary, Alta. OTTAWA – Athletics Canada published today its selection criteria for nomination to the 2012 Olympic Games team.
Athletics (track and field) at the Olympic Games in London, England takes place during the second week of competition – August 3 to 12.  The criteria reflect an athlete’s performance readiness to finish in the top 12, or top 24 for selected Rising Stars. [Read more…]
