Warner wins decathlon Bronze
Moscow – Damian Warner of London, Ont., won bronze today at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship. Warner finished the ten-event decathlon with a personal best score of 8512 points to earn the bronze medal, Canada’s first at this championship. Other Canadian highlights on day two of competition included Inaki Gomez of Vancouver, B.C., placing eight in the men’s 20-kilometre race walk with a seasonal best of 1:22:21. Ahmed best ever Canadian finish
Moscow – A number of Canadian athletes recorded strong performances on the first day of competition at the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championship in Athletics. Today’s Canadian highlights in Moscow, Russia include a best ever finish by a Canadian at the World Championships by St. Catharines, Ont., Mohammed Ahmed. Damian Warner of London, Ont., performed well in the first five of ten events in the decathlon to sit in fourth place while Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ont., and Gavin Smellie of Etobicoke, Ont., advanced to the semi-finals of the 100-metres. Drouin sets new Canada record
Derek Drouin of Corunna, Ont., established a new Canadian record of 2.36-metres in the men’s high jump today at the IAAF’s Diamond League competition in Eugene, Oregon. Drouin finished third behind American Erik Kynard (2.36m) and Essa Barshim of Qatar who set a world leading mark of 2.40-metres. The previous Canadian record was 2.35-metres held by Mark Boswell. Ottawa – Athletics Canada’s Hall of Fame will grow by ten when the class of 2013 is officially inducted in Moncton, New-Brunswick on June 20, 2013. Olympians to Penn Relays
OTTAWA – Athletics Canada is pleased to officially announce today the team that will represent Canada in the USA versus the World portion of the 2013 Penn Relay Carnival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania later this month.
