The Women's 800m event has stood still
for the last 20 years with Jarmila Kratochvílová's
[ TCH ] time of 1:53.28 having been set in München [Munich]
on the 26th July 1983.
Maria Mutola was seen as a suitable candidate
to challenge this record, however she has failed to eclipse
the mark. Jolande Ceplak [Slovenia] is the next star who may
come close to the mark - banned for EPO doping
We now have the exciting talent of Kenya's Pamela Jelimo who set a new World Junior Record of 1:54.87 and seems set to go faster.
To come close to the record we need female
800m runners who can run sub 51 seconds for 400m consistently,
and this feature has yet to emerge on the Women's 800m scene.
