Finland’s second largest marathon event, Vantaa Marathon, will be held for the 22nd time on Saturday 10th October. The event took previously place on Sundays but according to the director Harri Mannermaa, the organisers want to better accommodate those runners coming from further and abroad.
Vantaa Marathon 10th October 2015
The event being held on a Saturday allows more time for the runners to get home before the end of the weekend.
Vantaa Marathon is well known for its runner-friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You can choose between a full, half and a quarter marathon. The route is a 10,5 km loop which will be run accordingly. The route is flat and fast, which makes it suitable for those who are thinking of participating in their first event and anyone wanting to achieve a personal best may want to give it a go in Vantaa.
Vantaan Marathon adds a relay
New to this year’s event is a marathon relay. The relay consists of four equally long legs (10.5 km loop) and will be run in both men and women’s category. Women can take part in the men’s relay team but not vise versa. This is a fun way for club members, businesses and friends to take part in the event. Harri Mannermaa highlights that the relay is an excellent opporunity to get involved in the marathon atmosphere, for those who are not ready to conquer the full marathon distance yet. Each team MUST have a name is the only requirement to participate in this fun
relay event.
Marathon sauna and after party
All the runners are being invited to the official after party at the Sokos Hotel Vantaa in Tikkurila, only a walking distance away from the event.
The runners can soothe their tired muscles in the heat of a sauna and then join everyone at the after party.
Vantaa and Tikkurila Sports Park
Vantaa Marathon has its venue at the Tikkurila Sports Park (Tikkurilan Urheilupuisto) less than a kilometre away from the Tikkurila railway station.
At the Sports Park you have the best possible changing rooms and facilities for storing your bags, you even have a possibility to have a swim at the indoor swimming pool.
From Tikkurila you have an easy access to Helsinki and the surrounding areas as well as the Helsinki International airport, which is situated in Vantaa, right next to Tikkurila.
Mannermaa and the organisers would like to welcome all of you to come and spend the weekend in Vantaa!
