Cherobon-Bawcom, Gotcher headline USA 25 km Championships
Janet Cherobon-Bawcom and Brett Gotcher are two of the top athletes entered in Saturdayââ¬â¢s USA 25 km Championships. The event will be hosted for the 19th year by the Fifth Third River Bank Run in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Cherobon-Bawcom has dominated the U.S. womenââ¬â¢s road championships since she became eligible to compete for the U.S., last fall. In 2011, she picked up wins at the 20 km, 10 mile and 10 km distances to win the womenââ¬â¢s overall USA Running Circuit title. In 2012, Cherobon-Bawcom finished fifth at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon in January and won the 15 km championships as well.
Other women challenging for the win include 2011 runner-up Dot McMahan, Kristen Fryburg-Zaitz, Kathy Newberry and Alvina Begay.
Gotcher also took fifth place at the Olympic Trials Marathon in 2:11:06. Earlier this year he set a 5 km road personal best of 14:00 at the B.A.A. 5 km. Gotcherââ¬â¢s biggest threat will be 2011 runner-up Josh Moen. Others to watch include Ryan Bak, Christopher Landry and Joseph Chirlee.
